Expertises

Les partenaires de recherche incluent: Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services, Kahnawake Schools of Diabetes Prevention Project, Tasiurvik Family House.

Gathering family stories to heal communities Projet de recherche au Canada / 2013 - 2015

Chercheur principal : Sarah Fraser

The Inuit of Nunavik are facing soaring rates of child signalement and placements under child welfare service. Many have suggested that current government led services are not adequately dealing with family difficulties and that rather than strengthening family ties, they are creating family ruptures. It is believed that community-led services that foster empowerment and connection would allow families and communities to heal from generations of family ruptures. Adopting a narrative methodology, the general objective of this mixed-method study is to explore interactions between Inuit families and larger systems of care during family crisis situations or ‘turning points’ and to assess the association between the nature of interactions and family wellbeing in order to guide the inception of new services that tailor the needs of families.
